  • Members of KD2School participated in the NeuroIS Retreat 2026 in Vienna, one of the leading venues for interdisciplinary research at the intersection of neuroscience, information systems, and human-computer interaction.

     

    The retreat provided an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas with researchers from around the world, discuss emerging topics in NeuroIS, and receive valuable feedback on ongoing research projects. During the conference, our team contributed three research presentations:

     

    Fabio Stano and Thimo Schulz presented “Toward Multimodal Attention Detection in Virtual Reality Lectures: Combining Ear-EEG and Eye Tracking”, exploring the potential of integrating physiological and behavioral sensing modalities to assess learner attention in immersive educational environments.

     

    Lukas Schick and Chiara Krisam presented “Towards Mental Fatigue-Adaptive Systems: A Pilot Interview Study”, which investigates how future systems could detect and adapt to users’ mental fatigue in order to better support well-being and performance.

     

    Meghana Dharmapalan presented “Gastric Myoelectrical Dynamics During Experimentally Induced Affective and Cognitive States”, exploring how gastric myoelectrical activity responds to different emotional and cognitive conditions and assessing its potential as a physiological marker for affective state detection.

     

    We would like to thank the NeuroIS community and the organizers for an inspiring event and many engaging discussions. We are looking forward to continuing these research projects and bringing the insights gained in Vienna into our future work.
