Can adaptive AI systems help overcome the gender gap?
Gender differences in economic decision-making and labor market outcomes are a well-documented phenomenon. These differences might be driven by gender stereotypes and biases. Adaptive IT systems and AI, which are omnipresent in the workplace, could influence and potentially mitigate resulting inequalities. This workshop invites experts on gender differences in economic decision-making and experts on adaptive systems to discuss current insights and developments. We aim to establish a common understanding of how the integration of gender considerations can lead to more equitable and inclusive technological solutions. Questions raised include, but are not limited to, the following:
-What are the mechanisms driving gender differences in economic decision-making?
-How do adaptive IT systems, for instance, systems building on machine learning and big data, reinforce or mitigate existing gender stereotypes?
-What are the consequences of existing biases in the context of such systems?
-How can adaptive IT systems be designed to take existing biases into account and mitigate discrimination?
